Content: Per mL: Elemental iron (iron dextran complex) 100 mg, cyanocobalamin 25 mcg, cobalt chloride 10 mcg, zinc chloride 2 mcg.

PVET Classification: Iron Preparations/Hematinics

Indication: Prevention and treatment of iron deficiency anemia, anemia due to blood loss and parasitism, and macrocytic anemia (deficiency in co-factors).

Dosage Piglets:

Treatment – inject 2 mL/piglet intramuscularly using a ½ inch G20 or 21 needle. Prevention – inject 1 mL/piglet intramuscularly on the 3rd and 14th day after birth.

Use a ½ inch G20 or 21 needle. Other animals: 1 mL/10 kg BW as needed.

Contraindications Iron injection must be avoided in animals suffering from active injection or those with vitamin E or selenium deficiency. Do not mix with antibiotics or other supplements unless specified by the manufacturer.

Precautions Care must be taken when injecting iron to piglets born from old or malnourished sows that are likely deficient in vitamin E and selenium. Injecting a full 200-mg dose on the 3rd day to such piglets will cause fatal reactions. Ensure sows are adequately supplemented with vitamin E and selenium during gestation and implement split iron injection at day 3 and day 14 to avoid potential toxicity.
